Dr. Philip Berners is a Senior Lecturer at the Edge Hotel School, University of Essex, and serves as Director of Postgraduate Taught MSc programs in International Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, and Events Management. He holds a PhD (2023) in Sociology, exploring gaps in events industries between the UK and Poland, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on event tourism, risk attitudes, and qualifications versus experience.
Previously, he worked in event management for major venues like Thorpe Park and the BRIT Awards, advising clients such as Queen Elizabeth II and global artists. He secured exclusive partnerships for student projects with The BRIT Awards, Six Nations Rugby, and Elton John's tour.
