Phil Renforth

Dr. Phil Renforth serves as an Associate Professor within the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering at Heriot-Watt University's School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a collaborative role as an External Partner with the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation, specifically contributing to Theme 1: Earth system science modelling.

His research centers on climate change intervention strategies, with primary emphasis on earth system science modelling to evaluate geological weathering as a carbon dioxide removal technique. This work integrates energy engineering principles with climate science to develop scalable geoengineering solutions, focusing on the interactions between mineral weathering processes and atmospheric CO₂ dynamics. His interdisciplinary approach bridges fundamental earth system processes with applied climate mitigation engineering.

Dr. Renforth actively participates in the Leverhulme Centre's international research consortium, collaborating with cross-institutional teams to advance weathering-based carbon sequestration methodologies under Theme 1's earth system modelling framework.
