Phil Parvin is a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Politics at Loughborough University, currently on research leave for the 2024-25 academic year at the Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs (IDIA) on the London campus. He served as Head of International Relations, Politics and History at the East Midlands campus until 2024 and remains affiliated with the university.
His academic background includes a BA from the University of Kent, MA from the University of York, and PhD from the London School of Economics. Prior appointments comprise Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Cambridge University, teaching roles at Queen Mary University of London and LSE, plus visiting positions at UC Berkeley (2009, 2013) and Balliol College, Oxford (2018).
Research focuses on political theory and democratic processes, particularly examining political lobbying's impact on governance. He is actively developing a monograph on this subject during his current research leave.
Professional recognition includes the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Britain and Ireland Association for Political Thought and as Associate Editor of Res Publica.
