Phil Irish is an Associate Professor of Art at Redeemer University in Hamilton, Ontario, teaching studio art courses including Oil Painting, Figure Drawing, and Faith and Art. He holds an MFA in Visual Art from York University (2012) and a BA in Fine Art and English Literature from the University of Guelph (1995).
His research explores contemporary painting techniques, collage, and installation art with focus areas including:
- Artistic responses to environmental change and landscape transformation
- Dialogue between faith traditions and visual expression
- Neo-Baroque aesthetics and architectural motifs in painting
- Social commentary through public art installations
Recognition includes multiple nominations for the Kingston Prize for Canadian Portraiture and a community award for his socially engaged project 'Racism at Home'. He maintains professional affiliations with the Network of Christians in Visual Arts and Canadian Artists Representation Ontario.
Recent artistic fieldwork includes a 2023 Arctic Circle residency aboard an icebreaker, continuing his investigations of northern landscapes and climate impacts.
