Dr. Phil Hopley is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Natural Sciences, Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on using stable isotope geochemistry in cave carbonates and fossil teeth to understand Pliocene and Pleistocene climates and environments, particularly in the context of human evolution in Africa. He serves as Chair of the Earth and Planetary Sciences Sub-Board of Examiners and holds an Honorary Research Associate position at UCL's Department of Earth Sciences. Dr. Hopley teaches modules such as Earth History and Palaeoclimatology, and has supervised doctoral students, including Simon Maxwell. His work bridges sedimentological, palaeobiological, and geochemical approaches to study the environmental context of early hominin evolution.
Research Interests: Dr. Hopley's key interests include cave science, palaeodietary reconstruction, palaeoclimatology, and hominin evolution.
