Phil Henry is a Lecturer in Design Technology at the School of Design, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. He also serves as Admissions Director for the School of Design. His expertise spans experience design, colour management, and software interface design to enhance user engagement, alongside pioneering work in CAD as a tool for accelerated learning.
Education: BSc in Textiles Design and Design Management from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), followed by a PhD in Colour Software Development from the University of Leeds School of Design.
Research focuses on digital design productivity, notably developing a colouring plug-in tool for Photoshop (via Colour Mix). His work integrates design technology with textile and fashion manufacturing innovations, emphasizing digital printing and colouration software.
Teaching emphasizes fostering technical and creative skills in colour application, digital design, and fabric printing across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Current postgraduate researchers include Ximing Wang and Xuyinglong Zhang.
Pre-academic experience includes roles as a woven designer in the worsted industry and at NedGraphics (CAD software development), alongside over a decade of international consulting in textiles and fashion tech.
