Phanuel Antwi is an Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia’s Department of English Language and Literatures, where he holds the Canada Research Chair in Black Arts and Epistemologies (2022). His work bridges critical black studies, settler colonial studies, and black Atlantic/diaspora theories with a focus on Canadian literature and culture since 1830, critical race and gender studies, and material cultures.

Research Interests: Antwi’s scholarship interrogates the intersections of Black epistemologies and settler colonial frameworks, emphasizing how literature and cultural practices challenge racialized narratives. His current book project, Currencies of Blackness, examines affective labor and politeness in colonial writing.
Publications: His recent works include On Cuddling: Loved to Death in the Racial Embrace (2023) and articles in Interventions, Affinities, and Studies in Canadian Literature. His writing spans postcolonial theory, Caribbean diasporic literature, and urban cultural critique.
