Petros Koutsovitis

Petros Koutsovitis serves as an Associate Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Patras within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on magmatic processes, ophiolite petrogenesis, and sustainable raw material utilization.

• Education: BSc and PhD from the University of Athens

Research Interests: Specializes in petrogenesis of ophiolites, metasomatic processes in ultramafic rocks, and CO₂ mineralization potential of serpentinites. His work bridges igneous petrology with environmental applications through mining waste geochemistry studies.

Teaching: Offers courses on petrography of magmatic/sedimentary/metamorphic rocks, geological excursions, and heritage preservation. Supervises fieldwork in Cyclades and Corinth Gulf regions.

Research Projects: Involved in submarine power cable route surveys, marine habitat mapping in Cyprus, and CO₂ storage capacity evaluations. Leads studies on metallurgical slag valorization and coastal geohazard assessments.
