Professor Petra Meier is Professor of Public Health at the University of Glasgow's MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, where she leads the Systems Science in Public Health programme. She directs major consortia including SIPHER (£6.7M) and HealthMod (£7.5M), developing policy modeling tools for inclusive economies and population health. Her research examines economic and environmental drivers of health inequalities, with expertise in alcohol policy evaluation, minimum unit pricing, and cross-government approaches to health improvement.
Current doctoral students investigate gender effects in health/wealth dynamics, feminist urbanism, housing retrofit impacts, and employment-mental health linkages. Her 200+ publications demonstrate sustained focus on policy-relevant complex systems modeling, with recent work advancing methods for evaluating intersectoral interventions and health equity trade-offs.
Honors include Fellowship in the Academy of Social Sciences and advisory roles for Scotland's National Outcomes Framework and UK alcohol policy. Her research group maintains strong collaborations with policymakers across multiple government levels.
