Professor Peter de Jong is a leading academic in Experimental Psychopathology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from Maastricht University (1994) and has held academic positions since 1992, ascending to Full Professor in 2003. His research focuses on cognitive biases, disgust mechanisms in psychopathology (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety), and social anxiety. He advises numerous PhD students and leads projects funded by NWO and the Dutch-Flemish Experimental Psychopathology program. He actively contributes to clinical psychology education, teaching courses like Cognitive and Behavioural Processes across Disorders and supervising master's theses. Prof. de Jong is also a board member of the Dutch-Flemish postgraduate school for Experimental Psychopathology and serves on editorial boards of journals like Behavior Therapy and Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry. His awards include the Heymans collaboration fund (2018) and NWO research talent fund (2014). His work bridges experimental and clinical research, emphasizing translational approaches to mental health treatment.
