Dr. Peter West is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, located on unceded Indigenous lands of the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung peoples. His research focuses on designing lawfully in response to Indigenous sovereignty, integrating queer and critical race theories to challenge non-Indigenous design practices. He has conducted research on Indigenous governance through grants such as the Melbourne School of Government's 'Indigenous Nation Building' project (2014–2017) and the ARC Linkage Grant 'Indigenous Nationhood in the Absence of Recognition' (2014–2018). His work emphasizes organizational and individual accountability to Indigenous sovereignties, particularly on Kulin country.

He advises students on projects like Baiyiya Mulana Murrangurang: Song, Sovereignty, Practice and Djandak Wi (Country Fire): Traditional Owners in Victoria Digital Storytelling.
