معرفی
Professor Peter Weightman is a faculty member in the Physics Department at the University of Liverpool, with additional affiliations in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. His career spans interdisciplinary research bridging physics, biology, and medicine.
His research focuses on biophysics, particularly the physics of cancer, using advanced spectroscopic techniques and machine learning to improve cancer diagnostics. He has pioneered tools like reflection anisotropy spectroscopy for biological applications.
Recent publications highlight his work on infrared spectroscopy for tissue classification, photothermal imaging, and electron screening in semiconductors. Awards include the Rosalind Franklin Medal (2020) and the Mott Medal (2006), recognizing his contributions to scientific instrumentation and biological physics.
Scientific Awards:
- Rosalind Franklin Medal and Prize (2020)
- British Vacuum Council Senior Prize & John Yarwood Medal (2011)
- Mott Medal (2006)
- Riviere Prize (2000)
He leads the final-year module The Physics of Life and has secured major grants from EPSRC, STFC, and Cancer Research UK for projects on terahertz radiation, synchrotron-based spectroscopy, and ultra-sensitive CD instruments.
