Peter Sköld is a Professor of History, Sami Culture, and Society Development at Umeå University, Sweden. He serves as advisor to the Vice-Chancellor on Arctic and international issues, Master of Ceremony at the university, and holds a docent research qualification. His roles include former directorships at the Centre for Arctic Research (ARCUM) and the Centre for Sami Research. Sköld chairs the Board of Governors of the University of the Arctic (UArctic) and has held leadership positions in organizations like the International Arctic Social Sciences Association (IASSA).
His research focuses on Arctic sustainable development, historical demography, indigenous health transitions, and Sami cultural preservation. Key projects include the Arctic Human Development Report II and studies on Sami land use, smallpox history, and population statistics.
