Honorary Professor Peter Silburn is a neurologist and world expert in Parkinson's disease treatment and research at the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland. He serves as Co-Director of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Neuromodulation, a joint initiative between The University of Queensland and St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital.
Professor Silburn graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988 and completed his neurology training at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Oxford at the Radcliffe Infirmary in 1995. He served as Clinical Lecturer in Neurology at the University of Oxford before becoming a Research Fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. He returned to Brisbane in 1996 and became a full Professor in Neurobiology at The University of Queensland in 2006. He maintains academic affiliations with Griffith University and Queensland University of Technology.
His research focuses on Parkinson's disease, deep brain stimulation, neuromodulation, and movement disorders. With over 218 journal articles, 87 conference papers, and 1 book chapter to his name, Professor Silburn has made significant contributions to understanding and treating Parkinson's disease and related movement disorders. His recent work shows a strong emphasis on deep brain stimulation techniques, remote programming platforms, biomarker research for cognitive decline in Parkinson's, and neuromodulation applications for various neurological conditions.

Professor Silburn has been instrumental in establishing the Asia-Pacific Centre for Neuromodulation and has led numerous clinical trials and research projects focused on improving outcomes for patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. His work bridges the gap between clinical practice and research, translating scientific discoveries into practical applications for patient care.
He is actively involved with the Queensland Parkinson's Project, which has been tracking outcomes for Parkinson's patients for over 20 years, providing valuable longitudinal data on disease progression and treatment efficacy.
