Peter Sandiford

Dr Peter Sandiford serves as a Senior Lecturer in Management at the Adelaide Business School within the University of Adelaide's Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. He joined the Business School in July 2012 after working at universities in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.

His research focuses on the sociological analysis of work and hospitality, with particular emphasis on service work interactions and the emotionality of labor. Early career research centered on tourism before evolving into ethnographic studies of English public houses (pubs) and their societal role. His methodological approach prioritizes participant observation including experiences as an outsider-resident in Hong Kong villages, pub employee, and conservation volunteer.

Dr Sandiford teaches International Management, Organisational Behaviour, and Research Methodology. He actively supervises Honours, Masters, and PhD students interested in emotion in organizations, hospitality work, pub culture, graduate transitions, and work-based learning using qualitative methodologies. His professional background includes international hospitality industry experience in hotels, restaurants, and bars, along with accounts and sales roles.

Current research directions explore the broader societal role of pubs in modern contexts and service worker-server interactions through ethnographic lenses. He maintains eligibility for Masters and PhD supervision across relevant qualitative research topics.
