Peter Rist is a Professor of Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Concordia University. He has served as Chair of the School for eight of the last sixteen years and teaches undergraduate courses in national cinema and film aesthetics.

Research Interests
Rist specializes in South American Cinema, Asian Cinema (covering Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan, and Iran), Silent Cinema, and the History of Film Style with emphasis on the moving camera. His work also extends to Experimental Film, Third Cinema, and National Cinemas. He is currently authoring a Historical Dictionary of South American Cinema and contributes regularly to the online journal Offscreen.
Publications
He has edited books on Canadian and South American Cinema and written articles on Third Cinema and experimental film. Recent works (within the last five years) include book chapters on Korean, Chinese, Hong Kong, and African cinema, focusing on directors such as King Hu, Johnnie To, and Wai Ka Fai, as well as an essay titled "The Presence (and Absence) of Landscape in Silent East Asian Films".
