Peter Poon

Peter Poon is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Medicine at Monash University and Director of Supportive and Palliative Care at Monash Health. He also serves as a consultant palliative care physician with Eastern Palliative Care Association, the largest home-based palliative care service in Victoria. His expertise spans palliative care, pain medicine, telehealth, and oncology. With over 44 research outputs since 2010, his work addresses challenges in end-of-life care, telehealth implementation, and pain management.

His research interests include optimizing palliative care delivery through telehealth, improving patient outcomes in residential aged care via hospital in-reach programs, and addressing cancer-related depression through shared care models. Notable projects include 'Improving palliative and end-of-life care in residential aged care' (2023–2025) and 'Increasing service capacity for cancer-related depression' (2018).

Poon has received multiple accolades, including the Victorian Public Health Care Award (2018 winner) and best paper/poster awards in telehealth and palliative care research. His articles focus on telehealth efficacy, ketamine for cancer pain, and family experiences in end-of-life decision-making. He actively supervises PhD students and contributes to clinical teaching as a non-HDR supervisor since 2001.
