معرفی
Peter Panizzi is a tenured Professor at Auburn University's Harrison College of Pharmacy, Department of Drug Discovery and Development. He directs the Auburn Laboratory for Imaging Animal Systems (Project ALIAS), providing advanced imaging services for disease research. His laboratory focuses on molecular imaging technologies to monitor disease progression and evaluate therapeutic interventions.
Education:
- B.S. - Montevallo University (1996)
- M.S. Biochemistry - Vanderbilt University (1999)
- Ph.D. Cellular and Molecular Pathology - Vanderbilt University (2004)
Research Interests: Dr. Panizzi's work centers on Gram-positive infections (particularly Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis), molecular imaging of host-pathogen interactions, cancer metastasis, inflammation mechanisms, and myeloperoxidase inhibition. His lab employs murine and porcine disease models alongside multimodal imaging techniques including MSOT, IVIS Lumina, and optoacoustic tomography.
Publications: With over 80 publications, his work demonstrates strong themes in bacterial pathogenesis mechanisms (especially prothrombin activation pathways), development of novel molecular imaging probes for infection detection, and nanoparticle pharmacokinetics. Recent publications emphasize translational applications in orthopedic infections and neuroinflammation.
Current Funding: Co-Principal Investigator on NIH R01 HL158918-01A1 (2022-2026) studying fibrin(ogen)'s role in hemostatic proteinase activation and monoclonal antibody therapies against Gram-positive infections.
Laboratory & Resources: Directs Project ALIAS featuring MSOT inVision 256-TF, IVIS Lumina XRMS, Nikon AZ100 microscopy, and physiological monitoring systems. These resources support quantitative imaging of disease models including endocarditis, cancer, and inflammation.
