He holds a BA in Ancient Languages and Fine Arts from Fordham University and a PhD in Archaeology from Brown University.
Research interests include intersections of ancient Greek/Roman art, religion, and culture, with focus on sculptural production in the Roman Empire and portraits of Alexander the Great. He has conducted excavations in Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Egypt, including maritime archaeology projects involving shipwrecks and submerged structures in Rhode Island. His Fulbright-funded research on Athenian Acropolis caves led to the publication The Sanctuary of Apollo Hypoakraios and Imperial Athens, cited in the Acropolis Museum's guidebook.
Nulton serves on the board of the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project and is a certified archaeological diving specialist through training at Baia's Roman ruins. He emphasizes art's societal purpose in teaching, advocating for factual historical interpretation. Beyond academia, he practices music, martial arts, swimming, and combat sports.
