Peter Murray is an Associate Professor of Wildlife Management at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Agriculture and Environmental Science. With over 25 years at University of Queensland prior to joining UniSQ, his career spans animal science, wildlife biology, and natural resource management. Murray teaches courses in Wildlife Management and Vertebrate Pest Control, while supervising multiple PhD and Masters students researching wildlife ecology and conservation.
His research examines wildlife management strategies, focusing on species like koalas, red pandas, and invasive deer populations. Investigations address human-wildlife conflicts, conservation techniques, and sustainable resource use. Fieldwork extends to Africa and South America, providing students with international conservation experience.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on developing practical conservation solutions. Recent articles analyze habitat specialization in fragmented landscapes (2023), technological applications for wildlife monitoring (2023), and movement patterns of threatened species (2021). This research contributes to evidence-based management approaches for both native and invasive species.
Current doctoral supervision includes projects on koala nutrition, raptor monitoring technologies, and spider behavior analysis. Research collaborations span multiple institutions, examining topics from acoustic impacts of spacecraft to invasive species management.
