Peter Meineck is an Associate Professor of Classics in the Modern World at New York University, specializing in ancient performance, cognitive theory, Greek literature, and humanities public programming. He is also the Founder of Aquila Theatre, bridging academic scholarship with professional theatre through innovative productions of classical plays.
- Education: PhD in Classics from the University of Nottingham; BA (Hons) in Ancient World Studies from University College London.
His research spans ancient drama, cognitive theory applications in classical studies, and public humanities initiatives. He explores how ancient theatre informs modern understandings of empathy, trauma, and community engagement, often integrating neuroscience and visual cognition into performance analysis.
Recent publications include works on distributed cognition, classical prison education, and adaptations of Greek drama. His national programs, such as Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives and The Warrior Chorus, have earned recognition from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Translators Association.
