Professor Peter McCaffery serves as Vice-Chancellor of the Royal Academy of Arts (RAU), leading academic and administrative governance. With over 35 years of experience in education and leadership, he previously held roles as Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cumbria and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at London Metropolitan University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and the Royal Society of Arts. His academic background includes a PhD in American History, with a focus on political corruption in urban America, and he has consulted for international bodies like the British Council and governments of Botswana and Jamaica.

Research interests span American political history, higher education management, and leadership development. He co-authored the Epigeum project, a globally recognized online program in university leadership, published by Oxford University Press. Regularly featured as an analyst on Sky News, he has critically examined the political legacy of the Trump presidency.
Awards include recognition for his contributions to education and leadership, with fellowships from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and the University of Pennsylvania’s Idlewild program.
