Peter Lindberg Nejsum is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine - Infectious Diseases at Aarhus University's Faculty of Health. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions, particularly how parasites and their extracellular vesicles affect immune responses and disease development.
His educational background includes:
- PhD from University of Copenhagen (graduated January 9, 2009)
- MSc from Aarhus University (graduated June 30, 2003)
Nejsum's research interests span parasite immunology, extracellular vesicles, and molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interaction. He investigates how parasites secrete anti-inflammatory molecules with potential applications for treating chronic inflammatory diseases. His work has significant implications for diagnostic tool development and novel parasite combat strategies.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals strong focus on helminth immunology, particularly how parasites manipulate host immune cells through extracellular vesicles. His work bridges fundamental immunology with practical applications in both infectious disease treatment and inflammatory condition management.
Nejsum serves as course manager and lecturer for the graduate school 'Extracellular vesicles in health and disease' at Aarhus University and is an active member of the scientific community as demonstrated by his board membership in the Danish Society for Extracellular Vesicles (2019-2024).
He maintains extensive national and international collaborations across disciplines, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his research on parasite-host interactions and extracellular vesicle biology. His work connects basic science with translational applications in both infectious disease and inflammatory conditions.
