Peter Lichtenberg

Peter Lichtenberg is Distinguished University Service Professor of Psychology and Gerontology at Wayne State University, serving as past Director of the Institute of Gerontology (1999–2024) and Founding Director of the Lifespan Alliance. He holds a PhD from Purdue University (1986) and completed postdoctoral training in geriatric neuropsychology at the University of Virginia. He is board-certified in Clinical Geropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology.

Research focuses on financial decision-making capacity, financial exploitation of older adults, and the balance between autonomy and protection. His work integrates neuropsychological assessment with forensic evaluations, addressing vulnerabilities in financial judgment and elder fraud prevention.

Publications emphasize financial vulnerability metrics, intervention protocols, racial disparities in cognitive health, and community-engaged programs. Recent articles showcase methodological rigor in assessing financial behaviors and developing preventive frameworks for elder protection.
