Peter Langdon is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham and an Honorary Associate Professor at Norwich Medical School. He serves as Associate Director - Research for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust and holds roles as a Honorary Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and Approved Clinician at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Community Forensic Team. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals focused on health and well-being.
Research interests include clinical and forensic psychology, with a focus on intellectual disabilities, mental health treatment, and healthcare outcomes for vulnerable populations. Notable projects include studies on psychiatric bed utilization for individuals with intellectual disabilities, forensic inpatient care, and interventions for families of adolescents with disabilities.
Key awards include the Distinguished Achievement Award (IASSIDD, 2022) and Fellowships from the British Psychological Society and International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. His research has explored cognitive-behavioral therapies, psychodynamic interventions, and ethical frameworks for health research involving capacity-affecting conditions.
Langdon has led multiple NIHR-funded projects, including trials for OCD treatment and CBT for Asperger Syndrome. He advises on PhD students and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to advance mental health care for marginalized groups.
