Peter Kornicki is Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Cambridge since 2012 and Deputy Warden of Robinson College, Cambridge since 2008. Previously, he served as Professor of East Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge (2006-2012) and Professor of Japanese history and bibliography at the University of Cambridge (2000-2006). His academic career also includes a position as Associate Professor at the Humanities Research Institute of Kyoto University (1978-1982).
Professor Kornicki specializes in the history of the book in East Asia with particular focus on Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. His research examines manuscripts in the age of print, cultural translation across East Asian societies, and Japanese bibliography. His scholarly work bridges historical analysis with bibliographic studies to understand how written culture has shaped East Asian civilizations.
