Peter Kornicki is a Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Cambridge since 2012 and previously held roles as Professor of East Asian Studies (2006–2012) and Professor of Japanese History and Bibliography (2000–2006). He has been Deputy Warden of Robinson College, Cambridge since 2008. His academic career includes Associate Professorship at Kyoto University's Humanities Research Institute (1978–1982).

Kornicki's research focuses on the history of the book across East Asia, including Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as cultural translation and manuscripts in the age of print.
His notable honors include the Japan Foundation Special Prize (1992), Japan Festival Award (1993), and a Doctor of Letters from the University of Oxford (2011). He has been a Fellow of the British Academy since 2000.
