Peter Johnston

Peter Johnston is a Lecturer in the Department of Film and Media Studies at Michigan State University’s College of Arts & Letters. He specializes in digital media and film production, managing the program’s lab space and equipment while teaching courses such as Intro to Digital Film and Media and Creating the Fiction Film.

Johnston earned a BFA in Photography (2007) and an MA (2010) from Michigan State University. As a filmmaker, he has produced, directed, and edited numerous short fiction, documentary, and experimental works, including What Happens To A Dream Deferred (2018) and Ka-dy Comes Home (2016).

He has been prominently involved in the MSU Fiction Filmmaking Capstone Class, including the sold-out premiere of its 2023 short film and the 2024 Feast Your project. Johnston also contributes to film festivals such as FILMETRY and the MSU Latinx Film Festival.
