Peter J. Henshaw is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Western University. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (1989) and a Master's thesis on Canadian policy during the North Atlantic Treaty's creation (1985). His research focuses on British imperial and Commonwealth history, with emphasis on 20th-century southern Africa and Canada, particularly the role of John Buchan in shaping Canadian multiculturalism and British imperial identity. He has also analyzed the Dieppe raid’s strategic and political contexts, as well as Anglo-Canadian diplomacy in post-war decolonization.
His work bridges military history, colonial studies, and international relations. Current projects include John Buchan’s administrative roles in southern Africa, his propaganda work in WWI, and an edited collection on British documents regarding Lesotho, Botswana, and Swaziland’s independence. His publications span Canadian-African relations, South African economic history, and UN diplomacy during decolonization.
No scientific awards are listed, but his scholarly contributions are notable for their interdisciplinary approach to imperial and post-imperial histories. Advising details and grants are not explicitly mentioned, though his research often involves archival and diplomatic records analysis.
