Dr. Peter J. Laugharne is a Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at London Metropolitan University, where he serves as course leader for the International Relations and Politics BA (Hons) and International Relations and Law BA (Hons) programs. He holds a BSc (Econ) from Cardiff University and a PhD from the University of Hull. His academic career spans over three decades, including visiting professorships at the University of Delaware and Florida State University. Specializing in British politics, comparative politics, and legislative studies, his research focuses on parliamentary processes, particularly during the Thatcher era, and public policy.
Dr. Laugharne has extensive public service experience, including 12 years as an elected Councillor in the London Borough of Redbridge, where he served as Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration. He led the Progressive Ilford urban redevelopment project and received awards for environmental initiatives. His teaching includes modules on governance, comparative politics, and international relations theory. He actively supervises PhD and master’s students in areas like UK Civil Defence Policy and public management.
His publications include edited volumes on Aneurin Bevan’s parliamentary contributions and articles on UK political history, electoral dynamics, and government strategy. He has contributed expert commentary on contemporary political issues for media outlets like BBC Newsnight and Bloomberg. His professional roles also include board memberships in education and business organizations.
