Peter Hobbs is an Adjunct Professor in the Soil and Crop Sciences Section of Cornell University's School of Integrative Plant Science. He holds expertise in international agriculture systems, tropical cropping systems, and agroforestry, with 30+ years of experience at institutions like IRRI and CIMMYT. He teaches courses on global agriculture, GMOs, and agroecology, and leads projects in Afghanistan, Kenya, and Zambia.
- Education: Ph.D., Cornell University (1972); M.Sc., Kansas State University (1969); B.Sc., Reading University (1967).
His research focuses on conservation agriculture, climate change mitigation, and sustainable land management. Notable projects include curriculum development in Afghan universities and USAID-funded initiatives on agroforestry in Afghanistan and conservation agriculture in Zambia. He has authored influential publications and book chapters on tropical farming systems and global food security.
Peter advises USAID-supported programs like Pulse CRSP and SANREM CRSP, emphasizing international development and rural livelihoods. He has held roles such as Associate Director for Academic and Professional Studies at IP-CALS and contributes to Cornell's global outreach efforts.
