Alison G Power is a Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Science and Technology Studies program. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (1985) and a B.S. from the University of Alaska (1979). Her research focuses on disease ecology in plant communities, particularly examining how landscape heterogeneity, plant diversity, and vector behavior influence plant pathogens and agroecosystem resilience. She also investigates the interplay between food security, ecosystem services, and sustainable agriculture.
Key research areas include plant-virus interactions, agroecology, and the ecological impacts of transgenic crops. She has received funding for projects such as a Cornell Atkinson grant to study Melipona bee conservation in Colombia, linking biodiversity to smallholder livelihoods. Dr. Power teaches courses like Ecology and the Environment (BioEE 1610) and contributes to graduate training programs. Her work bridges ecological theory with applied challenges in global food systems and climate adaptation.
