Peter Herresthal

Peter Herresthal is a Professor of Violin at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he leads within the Strings and Harp department. His academic influence extends globally through concurrent professorships at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and visiting positions at London's Royal College of Music and NYU Steinhardt School in New York.

Renowned for pioneering contemporary violin performance, Herresthal has premiered works by Saariaho, Mazzoli, Adès, and Nordheim, resulting in Grammy-nominated recordings and five Spellemann Awards. His research uniquely intersects performance practice and scientific analysis, notably through 2012 microstructural studies of violins using synchrotron radiation.
