معرفی
Professor Peter Haughton is a Full Professor and Head of the School of Earth Sciences at University College Dublin. He holds the Tullow Professorship of Petroleum Geoscience and directs the MSc program in Petroleum Geoscience. He is also a Co-PI at the Irish Centre for Applied Geoscience (iCRAG). His academic journey includes a BA (Mod) from Trinity College Dublin (1981) and a PhD from the University of Glasgow (1986), followed by postdoctoral research fellowships. After industry work, he returned to academia in 1996.
Research interests focus on deep-water sedimentary processes, including turbidity currents, sediment gravity flows, and their interaction with tectonics and bottom currents. His work explores sedimentation in confined basins, slope stability, and the geology of Ireland's Atlantic margin. Notable contributions include studies on the Porcupine Basin, Clare Basin, and Rockall Trough, emphasizing reservoir geology and basin evolution.
Prof. Haughton has edited the journal Sedimentology (2002–2006) and contributed to professional associations like the International Association of Sedimentologists. His research combines fieldwork, subsurface data, and experimental modeling to address challenges in sediment dynamics and petroleum systems.
