Peter Goggin is an Associate Professor of English (Rhetoric) at Arizona State University (ASU). His research focuses on environmental rhetoric, sustainability, and literacy studies. He serves as a senior sustainability scholar at ASU’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, investigating rhetorics of sustainability and globalization in oceanic island contexts. Goggin has authored/co-edited influential books including Environmental Rhetoric and Ecologies of Place (2013) and Serendipity in Rhetoric, Writing, and Literacy Research (2018).
He has taught globally in locations such as Romania, China, Bermuda, Austria, and across the U.S. Goggin founded and co-directs the Western States Rhetoric and Literacy Conference, emphasizing themes of sustainability, transnationality, and place-based learning. His work bridges environmental advocacy, literacy education, and rhetorical theory.
His professional service includes editorial roles for journals like Composition Studies and Community Literacy Journal. He actively promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in sustainability research and writing pedagogy.
