Peter Finley is a full-time Professor of Sport and Recreation Management in the Department of Management at the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business & Entrepreneurship. His academic roles include teaching courses such as Sport in Society, Facility and Event Management, and Sport Sponsorship Design. Previously, he served as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs (2014–2017) before returning to faculty duties.
Finley's research explores critical issues in sport management, including:
- Ethical dilemmas in college athletics (e.g., academic fraud, hazing)
- Economic analysis of professional and collegiate sports
- Sociocultural impacts of sports media and film
- Recruitment strategies and athlete education
Honors include:
- Huizenga College Excellence in Teaching Award (2008)
- Alumni Honor Academy inductee, Western Michigan University (2017)
- Excellence in Education 'Significant Educator' (1998)
Before academia, Finley was a high school teacher and track coach, producing 11 All-State athletes. He holds a Ph.D. in Sport Administration (University of Northern Colorado), an M.A. in Educational Leadership, and a B.A. in Physical Education (both from Western Michigan University).
