Peter Falkai

Prof. Dr. Peter Falkai serves as Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), leading a multidisciplinary research team with over 30 years of psychiatric expertise. He founded the brain bank for psychiatric diseases in 2014 and maintains active roles in BrainNet and BrainNet Europe II research networks.

His research centers on schizophrenia neurobiology, utilizing structural/functional imaging and post-mortem tissue analysis to investigate psychotic disorders. Key initiatives include clinical trials on aerobic exercise as adjunctive schizophrenia treatment and collaborative work identifying risk factors within Munich's psychiatric research network. His team integrates transgenic mouse modeling with clinical drug repurposing studies.

Prof. Falkai supervises students through the IMPRS for Translational Psychiatry program, directing research that spans from molecular analysis to clinical intervention.
