Peter Dawson is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of East Anglia, affiliated with the School of Economics. He is a member of research groups in Applied Econometrics and Finance, Behavioural Economics, and Statistics. He holds a PhD from the University of Hull and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with prior academic experience at the University of Bath and external examining roles at Imperial College London, Loughborough University, University of Sussex, and University of Liverpool.

Dawson’s research focuses on agent behavior in sports, such as referees, players, and managers, and the socioeconomic impact of major sporting events like the Olympics. The body of work demonstrates a consistent application of econometric methods to real-world sports phenomena, with strong implications for policy and governance.
He has received media attention for his insights on the economic legacy of the World Cup and fairness in sports officiating. Dawson has also undertaken consultancy for governmental and sports bodies including the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Sport England, and Norwich City Football Club.
He actively supervises PhD students and is involved in curriculum development, particularly in econometrics and the economics of sport.
