Peter Davies

Peter Davies is a Lecturer in Earth Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), affiliated with the School of Science, Technology and Engineering. He contributes to teaching in Soil Science, Geology, and Statistics, and coordinates the Bachelor of Environmental Science program. His research focuses on ecosystem recovery post-mining, nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria dynamics, and Quaternary sediment studies on the Sunshine Coast. He has conducted fieldwork in coastal environments of Queensland and Fiji, integrating geophysical techniques like ground-penetrating radar and LiDAR.

Research emphasizes palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, sediment nutrient dynamics, and coastal evolution. Publications span Holocene sea-level changes, palaeochannel mapping, and sand island formation under climate change. His work bridges geological processes with environmental management, contributing to sustainable land-use practices in coastal regions.

Peter’s expertise includes critical zone observatory studies, remote sensing applications, and interdisciplinary collaborations in environmental science. He has presented at international conferences such as the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting and the Australian Academy of Science’s Elizabeth and Frederick White Research Conference.
