David Krantz is an Associate Professor of Geology in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Toledo. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Carolina (1988) and a B.S. from College of William and Mary. Dr. Krantz teaches courses in Physical Geology (EEES 1010), Oceanography & Water Resources (EEES 2400), and Quaternary Geology (EEES 4200).
His research spans coastal and marine geology, oceanography, and Quaternary geology with particular focus on the U.S. East Coast (Delmarva Peninsula, Virginia Eastern Shore, Maryland Coastal Bays) and Great Lakes Region. Dr. Krantz employs geophysical methods including ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and resistivity surveys to investigate coastal processes and stratigraphy.
His recent publications reveal expertise in Holocene stratigraphy, shoreface processes, hydrogeology of coastal bays, and barrier island evolution. Research trends show consistent focus on the interaction between geological frameworks and modern coastal processes, with increasing emphasis on hydrogeological aspects of coastal systems over the past decade.
Dr. Krantz has collaborated extensively with researchers from various institutions on projects related to coastal geology and hydrogeology, particularly focusing on the Delmarva Peninsula region.
His research has been supported by agencies including the National Science Foundation and the National Park Service, with applications for coastal management and understanding long-term shoreline change.
