Peter Carmeliet serves as a Full Professor at KU Leuven's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Oncology, and has been a VIB Group Leader since 1996. He heads the Laboratory of Angiogenesis and Vascular Metabolism (VIB-KU Leuven) and is a member of both the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Cancer Biology and LKI - KU Leuven Cancer Institute. His institutional roles include membership on the Council of the Faculty of Medicine and Council of the Department of Oncology as senior academic staff.
His research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) in health and disease, with particular emphasis on vascular heterogeneity and vascular metabolism.
