Peter Bursens is a Professor of Political Science at the Department of Political Science, University of Antwerp, since 2010. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Antwerp (1999) and has served as Vice-Dean for Education from 2012 to 2018. His research focuses on European decision-making, federalism, and democratic legitimacy within multi-level political systems, anchored in the GOVTRUST Centre of Excellence. He is a senior member of the Politics and Public Governance Research Group (P&PG).
Teaching responsibilities include European integration and multilevel systems across undergraduate and master’s programs, including the Master in International Relations and Diplomacy. He also teaches at the Antwerp Management School and the Institute for Sustainable Development and Environment. He leads a Jean Monnet Chair on 'skills teaching in European Union Studies,' developing simulation games and assessment tools for political science and EU curricula.
