Prof. Dr. Peter Burger is a Professor at the University of Hamburg, leading the working group AG Burger within the Department of Chemistry (MIN Faculty). His research focuses on small molecule activation (O2, H2, CH4, N2) using pyridine diimine (PDI) complexes of group 9 metals, particularly targeting selective aerobic oxidation of methane to methanol and photochemical water splitting.
- University of Konstanz (Diplom in Chemistry, 1987; PhD in Chemistry, 1991)
- Postdoctoral research: University of Zurich (1991), UC Berkeley (1991-1993)
- Habilitation (2003) at University of Zurich
Research Interests:
His group investigates organometallic complexes for catalytic applications, including redox flow batteries, molecular switches, and photochemical water splitting. Key methodologies involve synthesis, DFT calculations, and reactive metal-oxo and metal-nitrido species.
Publications:
Recent work spans organometallic chemistry (Iridium/Rhodium complexes), C-H activation, metal-ligand cooperativity, and bioinorganic systems. Topics include methane functionalization, redox-active ligands, and transition metal oxo/nitrido chemistry.
Students:
Current doctoral students include Thomas Marx and Zainab Yusufzadeh. Contact details: Peter.Burger@uni-hamburg.de | peter.burger@chemie.uni-hamburg.de
