Dr. Peter Breen is a Professor in the Department of Architecture at Monash University and director of E2Designlab Pty Ltd. He holds a dual role as a Practice Professor in the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Water Sensitive Cities. His expertise spans interdisciplinary research in urban water management, with a focus on integrating scientific and practical approaches to aquatic ecosystem preservation. Key areas include Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), stormwater/wastewater treatment, and wetland ecology. He leads the RISE Program, funded by the Wellcome Trust and Asian Development Bank, exploring water management in informal settlements.
His career spans over 35 years across academia, industry, and consulting, emphasizing the application of ecological principles to urban challenges. Collaborations include projects in Australia and Southeast Asia, addressing issues like greywater treatment, regenerative park design, and community-driven infrastructure upgrades. Awards include the 2017 Excellence in Innovation Award and recognition for the RISE Demonstration Site’s social impact.
Research contributions include over 40 outputs, with recent work focusing on green infrastructure for urban resilience. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities).
