Peter A. White serves as Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and Professor at the School of Arts & Sciences at Colby-Sawyer College. He has been a faculty member since 2001 and holds a Ph.D. from Indiana State University and a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.
Education:
- B.S., University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth
- Ph.D., Indiana State University
Professor White's research initially focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms in acute renal failure, specifically examining actin cytoskeleton dynamics in renal proximal tubular cells under ATP-depletion. He has transitioned to investigating the integration of liberal arts with STEM education, aligning with his role as Director of Liberal Education since 2019.
His recent publications (2000-2002) demonstrate expertise in cytoskeletal biology, renal cell pathology, and molecular physiology. These works analyzed actin reorganization in kidney cells using both experimental and computational approaches.
Scientific Awards:
- NSF S-STEM Grant (2019, $648,700)
- CIC NetVUE Vocation in Undergraduate Training Professional Development Award (2020, $10,000)
- Davis Educational Foundation Vocation and Practice Integration Award (2020, $219,582)
- Sonja C. and William H. Davidow Endowed Chair (2021)
- Council of Independent Colleges Travel Award (2021)
Professor White has led significant educational initiatives including the EMERGE program for STEM scholars and curriculum development projects focused on vocational integration. He teaches courses spanning molecular biology, physiology, and science communication, while maintaining his Davidow Chair position.
