Peter A. Strittmatter is a Regents Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona, affiliated with Steward Observatory. His research focuses on astrophysical phenomena including accretion processes around supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), radio observations of the Galactic Center (e.g., Sagittarius A* using mm-VLBI), and instrumental advancements for large telescopes such as the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT), Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), and Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT). He has also contributed to administrative roles, including chairing the Faculty Senate Committee on undergraduate program reconfiguration.
His work bridges theoretical astrophysics with observational techniques, leveraging collaborations like those with Wolfgang Duschl on hydrodynamic viscosity models. He is deeply involved in telescope development and operations through the Steward Observatory Mirror Lab, emphasizing interdisciplinary innovation in astronomy infrastructure.
