California Institute of Technology (Caltech)معرفی
Junhan Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at KAIST. His research focuses on observational cosmology, particularly studying supermassive black holes using the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project. He previously worked as a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech's Observational Cosmology Group and contributed to developing VLBI receivers for the South Pole Telescope. Kim holds a PhD from the University of Arizona's Department of Astronomy and Steward Observatory, where he collaborated with Prof. Dan Marrone. He completed dual bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering and astronomy at Seoul National University and fulfilled South Korea's mandatory military service at MTI Co., Ltd.
Education:
- PhD in Astronomy, University of Arizona (Steward Observatory)
- Bachelor's Degrees in Electrical Engineering & Astronomy, Seoul National University
Research emphasizes high-angular-resolution observations of black holes and instrumental advancements in radio astronomy. His work with the EHT project aims to image event horizons of supermassive black holes, including Sagittarius A* at the Milky Way's center. Technical contributions include receiver development for the South Pole Telescope, part of the global VLBI network.
Labs/Teams: Active participant in the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration and former member of Caltech's Observational Cosmology Group.
