Peter A. Hancock is a Pegasus Professor and Provost Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Central Florida (UCF), holding appointments in the Department of Psychology, Institute for Simulation and Training (IST), Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Industrial Engineering and Management Systems. He directs the MIT2 Research Laboratories and serves as Associate Director of the Center for Applied Human Factors in Aviation (CAHFA). Previously, he founded the Human Factors Research Laboratory at the University of Minnesota and holds adjunct roles at multiple institutions. His research focuses on human factors, neuroergonomics, stress-performance dynamics, and human-machine systems.
Dr. Hancock has authored over 700 publications and 20 books, including seminal works on human performance and ergonomics. He has secured $19M+ in grants from NASA, NSF, and the military. Awards include the Sir Frederic Bartlett Medal, Norbert Wiener Award, and Otto Edholm Award. He is a Fellow of multiple societies and served as past president of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
His work spans aviation safety, automation trust, and cognitive deception. Notable contributions include foundational stress models, AI ethics frameworks, and neuroergonomic applications. He also researches medieval history, particularly Richard III, and holds a Doctor of Science from Loughborough University.
