Pete Berry serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Science at Oregon State University's Main Campus in Corvallis, Oregon, specializing in precision weed management and GIS-integrated agricultural technologies. His work bridges academic research with practical field applications in specialty crop systems.
Dr. Berry earned his PhD from Oregon State University in 2019, followed by applied research experience as a Field Researcher for Syngenta in Central Illinois before returning to OSU in 2022 to establish his academic program.
His research program advances precision agriculture through drone technology integration, spectral analysis for weed-crop differentiation, and targeted herbicide application systems. Key focus areas include developing spot-spraying protocols for specialty seed crops and mint oil production, high-resolution weed mapping for population isolation, and computer vision techniques for real-time weed species identification. These innovations significantly improve resource efficiency and environmental sustainability in agricultural weed management.
Dr. Berry actively contributes to the Pacific Northwest Herbicide Resistant Initiative while maintaining professional affiliations with the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) and Western Society of Weed Science (WSWS). He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Weed Management and Advanced Weed Management, emphasizing hands-on species identification and providing mentorship opportunities for graduate students within the Crop and Soil Science Department.
