Pete Bates

Pete Bates is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and serves as an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at the Royal London Hospital where he holds the position of Head of Orthopaedic Trauma. He functions as Course Co-Director for the Orthopaedic component of the MSc in Trauma Sciences program at QMUL.

Dr. Bates specializes in pelvic fractures and polytrauma management. His clinical expertise is complemented by his role as Clinical Lead for orthopaedics and Lead for orthopaedic trauma at Barts Health. He completed his primary training in North East London followed by trauma fellowships in Christchurch (New Zealand), Nottingham (UK), and Dallas (Texas, USA).

His research and clinical focus centers on complex orthopaedic trauma cases, with particular emphasis on pelvic injury mechanics and comprehensive treatment approaches for patients suffering multiple traumatic injuries. His work bridges clinical practice with academic instruction in trauma surgery education.
